Sometimes, people get attached to the games they grew up playing. So when that game no longer exists because of a different company or it's too hard for them to find, people go through a lot of trouble trying to find the game for themselves. They might even try pirating an old copy of the game in order to play it again. This is what happened to Christian Paskota, a Brazilian game developer who created soma, a PlayStation emulator on Linux based on the PCSX source code. He was able to emulate many of the games on his computer until he tried to play "". Since the game was only available on PlayStation, he decided to create his own PlayStation emulator so that he can play it. Paskota asked people who had knowledge about the PlayStation to help him with this project. Through e-mail and IRC (Internet Relay Chat), new programmers were recruited and started working on new versions of this emulator. Together, they were able to port newer version of PCSX into Linux. They also created a wiki which helped them document the emulation process to help new programmers learn how the PlayStation worked. In 2006, soma was licensed under GNU GPLv2, version 2 or later. In February 2006, Paskota started collaborating with the PCSX emulator team and began to help students in a University in his city who wanted to create a PlayStation emulator using the PCSX-Reloaded base code. This collaboration resulted in a new project called “lma-manager”, which was created so that people could emulate old games from Sony's PlayStation software library. Users can then download and use these games for free on their computers. Christian Paskota had first heard of lma-manager from a friend who was trying to "play" "Grand Theft Auto", which is a PlayStation 2 exclusive. At the time, the only way to play it was by way of a ROM or at least acquire a ROM with a self-made emulator. Paskota decided to create his own emulator along with others who had similar interests. Paskota released an initial version on 23 January 2007 under the GPL v2 license and added support for "Final Fantasy VIII", "Final Fantasy IX", and "Final Fantasy X". This initial release was called “0.1”. Later, on 20 July 2007, Paskota released version 0.2. This release included support for more PlayStation games, including "Final Fantasy VII", "Xenogears", "Wild Arms 2", and others. Version 0.3 was released on 11 June 2008 with added PSX Emulator support for newer PSX games including "Jade Cocoon" and "Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure". Other FPSs ported to lma-manager were "Shadow Tower" and "Quake". Since this release, the team has added the following features:On 5 June 2009, version 0. cfa1e77820
