Schools across India are increasingly focusing on teaching students about the world of work. The 6th Pay Commission observed that by 2020, nearly nine out of 10 jobs were likely to be outside the formal sector. The government has emphasised on developing new skills for various levels of education by providing programmes like “Empowering Young Indians” and “Skill India”. As part of these efforts, CBSE is introducing an additional subject in schools called "Resources and Development". This subject will include issues related to infrastructure, technology, natural resources and sustainable development. CBSE has also developed new courseware for the subject. Detailed guidelines have been developed for teachers on how to teach this subject. The approach to teaching of this subject shall be both cognitive and experiential, inductive and deductive, analytical and synthetic, interdisciplinary (drawing on several subjects) and multi-disciplinary (referring to aspects of several subjects). It will include materials that cover issues related to infrastructure, technology, natural resources and sustainable development. It will also involve activities like mapping and needs assessment. This subject shall be taught as a collaborative effort of primary and secondary school students. Elementary school students shall be involved in the elementary aspects of the subject, while higher primary and secondary students will be involved in the advanced aspects of the subject. The CBSE has developed new courseware for this course that is made available free for teachers. The Knowledge Resource Book (KRB) consists of information, concepts and related artefacts necessary to bring out a holistic understanding on “Resources and Development”. The KRB consists of the following parts: The CBSE National Resource Centre (NRC) is located in New Delhi, India. It was established in 2005 to provide guidance and support to school education in India. It has two major functions: resource collection and dissemination. The centre currently collects available resources in various languages for use by students, teachers, the media and stakeholders in the field of education. These materials include books, videos, graphics, images, articles, reports and manuals. The centre also looks for new content to add to its collection when it has opportunities to do so. This policy is an extension for NRC's work related to translating materials into Indian languages since 1979. NRC also provides a suite of services to teachers to help them design and deliver effective learning environments for their students. In addition, the centre’s service delivery team helps schools conduct needs assessments as well as to organise workshops on topics such as curriculum development. The Centre's headquarters have been located in New Delhi since its inception in 2005. It has been working to improve access to various education related materials internationally and across India, employing a multi-stakeholder approach that includes professionals from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education and other Departments of Government of India, other Government agencies and academia. cfa1e77820
